It is an opportunity for people worldwide to show solidarity and raises awareness in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. The COVID-19 has challenged the capacity of accessing comprehensive healthcare services as well as increasing equity among vulnerable people. The crisis also presents the impact on slowing the progress, which means the world will be missing the “90-90-90” targets for towards ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. In responding to the pandemic, the National Health Security Office (NHSO) with a collective effort from relevant partners working together to ensure the availability of life-saving medicines, therapeutics, and other health services through the Universal Health Coverage scheme. Therefore, the NHSO has accelerated implementation of multi-month dispensing of Antiretroviral (ARV) drugs and supported people living with HIV. This building up a positive difference and minimizing the adverse impact of the COVID-19 on accessing ARV medicines and related issues.
UNAIDS praises Thailand for its timely action to ensure that HIV services continue to be made available for people living with HIV and those at risk of HIV infection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
