Japanese and Thai Health Financing Experts Converge for Key Health Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop in Bangkok, 21-23 August
Day 1 and Day 2; Workshop in Bangkok, 21-22 August
Health financing experts from Thailand and Japan were joining a three-day workshop in Bangkok and Ayutthaya to monitor and evaluate the activities that the Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage between Thailand Japan (aka GLO+UHC) has done so far to promote UHC, and to discuss the further development of health financing in both countries. The workshop marked another significant step in the ongoing collaboration to refine health services and practices between the two nations.
Among the many prestigious individuals attending the event, several stood out due to their significant roles in health financing in Thailand. Dr. Lalitaya Kongkam, the Deputy Secretary-General, set the tone with an inspiring opening speech. Dr. Kriddhiya Sriprasert, a Senior Consultant at NHSO, brought years of experience and deep insights. Joining them was Mr. Pratuang Paodit, the Assistant Secretary-General of NHSO, whose administrative perspectives provided a broad view of the healthcare financing landscape. Dr. Patiphak Namahoot, renowned as the M&E Department Director, and Dr. Rachanid Pornvipavee, the esteemed Director of the Medical Audit Department at NHSO, both gave insights into the complexities of healthcare systems.
Representing academia, Asst.Prof. Rungpetch Sakulbumrungsil of the College of Pharmacy Administration of Thailand and Asst.Prof. Khunjira Udomaksorn from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Prince of Songkla University added academic depth to the discussions in terms of drug pricing.
From Japan, we witnessed the participation of influential figures like Dr. Nobuo Sakata, the Director of Heisei Medical Welfare Group Research Institutes, a Fee Schedule expert, and Prof. Taichi Ono, who oversees Health Policy at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. Dr. Tomoo Naito, with his role as the Senior Medical Director at the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, shared intricate detailed account of the actual situation of Claim and Audit system in the Japanese healthcare realm.
There were also contributions from far-flung online participants such as Mr. Takaaki Ariga and Ms. Junko Takao from the Health Insurance Claims Review & Reimbursement Service (HICRRS), and Mr. Teruyoshi Ehara, who is a former JICA expert working in FDA, Thailand with his great knowledge on pharmaceutical policy in Japan.
Together, these individuals contributed to a comprehensive and enlightening discussion on healthcare matters of mutual interest. Mrs. Wilailuk Wisasa, Director of International Affairs in the UHC Department, and Dr. Masato Izutsu, Chief Advisor of GLO+UHC2, were steering the sessions as moderators.
Day 3; Field Visit in Ayutthaya, 23 August
The third day offered a practical experience for the Japanese experts with a specially arranged site visit to the Bang Pa-in Hospital in Ayutthaya Province. Dr. Thapakorn Jittanoon, Director of Bang Pa-in Hospital, gave the delegates a comprehensive walkthrough.
The itinerary includeded a unique opportunity to observe the hospital's operations closely. Participants was able to witness firsthand the hospital flow referral system and even delve deep into the Claim and Reimbursement system in action.
A noteworthy segment of the visit involved a walk through the hospital. This wasn't just a casual stroll but a chance for the Japanese delegation to immerse themselves in real-time operations, allowing them to see the actual work processes of the staff ensuring that they gain a comprehensive understanding of the practical aspects of healthcare financing and delivery.
Additionally, the experts had further their field experience with a visit to the Bangkasan Tambon Health Promoting Hospital, enhancing their grasp of the diverse health facilities present in Thailand.
During the visit, Japanese experts also shared their knowledge and experiences in Japan, providing a valuable opportunity to discuss further develop the healthcare system in both countries.
