(Bangkok, Thailand) The National Health Security Office (NHSO) welcomed 14 medical practitioners from the Lao People's Democratic Republic for a half-day visit on March 13, 2024, for an experience-sharing session on Thailand's journey to Universal Health Coverage.
The visit was part of a comprehensive initiative to advance medical and public health practices aligned with the Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn initiative to improve the quality of healthcare services and enhance the quality of life for the Lao population organized by the Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University.
During the visit, the Lao delegation engaged in a session entitled "Thailand's UHC experiences: The journey of UCS," led by Ms. Chalarntorn Yothasmutra, Director of the International Collaborating Division on UHC Policy Advocacy Unit at NHSO. This session provided insights into the details of the development of Thailand's Universal Health Coverage and the role and responsibility of NHSO.
The visit included an interactive discussion on healthcare issues, such as managing UCS coverage for patients with substance abuse issues and accidents, handling citizen complaints, and looking into the challenges and future directions of Thailand's UHC system. The conversation also covered ways to handle healthcare needs during Thailand's transition to an aging society.
